New Features in SureSync 5.0
| New Feature | Feature Description | Feature Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| New Scheduler | SureSync 5.x eliminates the use of DCOM and runs the Scheduler as a true Windows service. | Simplified installation and setup. |
| New Status Bar - "SyncStatus" | SyncStatus allows you to view status of all of your SureSync machines enterprise wide without the need to have access to the SureSync databases. | It is no longer necessary to remote access multiple SureSync machines to view jobs on each or open multiple databases. SyncStatus allows users to easily view the status of jobs across an organisation. |
| Group Folders | Group Folders allow the user to organise relations, schedules and monitors into folders. | Allows for more complete organisation of the SureSync database, simplifying management of replication tasks. |
| New Security Settings | SureSync now has database security down to the job level. Permissions can be assigned on Relations, Schedules, and Real-Time Monitors allowing different users different levels of access to SureSync and the jobs configured in the database. | With the detailed security settings in SureSync 5 you can configure a centralised database for all personnel involved in the file synchronisation process and allow each person only access to the jobs which they need to have access to in order to perform their jobs. |
| Redesigned Preview | The new Preview displays all actions in a tree structure which clearly displays all root paths and the actions taken in a single view without the need to toggle between paths. | The new Preview makes it much easier to see the actions taken on all paths in a multi-path synchronisation without needing to toggle through paths like the old 4.x multiple pane view. The end result is a clean fresh looking preview that allows you to easily examine the output of your planned replication. |
| Upgraded Interface | The entire product has a new updated look and feel as the product has been rewritten in .Net. | Many options are more visual and easier to find. The panels have more textual detail explaining options better without having to refer to the help file as frequently. |
| CRC Option | Each time a file is copied with this option turned on a CRC check is performed as an additional step to ensure data integrity. | Provides an extra layer of protections to make sure data is always perfectly intact on the destination machines. |
| Simplified Wizards | The Relation, Schedule, and Monitor wizards have all been greatly simplified showing only the essential options which must be configured to create the job. Other options can be modified in the main desktop program after the job has been created. | Simplified wizards means configuration of new SureSync jobs will take less time for an employee to configure. |

| Change Journal Support for Real-Time Monitors | The Change Journal is a feature in the NTFS file system which tracks changes made to a volume. SureSync now takes advantage of the Change Journal when available to eliminate the need to perform as many directory scans. A Monitor must scan the full directory structure when the Monitor first starts. After that scan the Monitor uses the Change Journal and can resume from being placed on hold or even a machine reboot without a rescan. | Synchronisations performed in real-time are more efficient because less time is spent performing directory scans. The Change Journal support also makes Real-Time Monitors much more durable in regards to “rescans” which could happen in highly active directory structures with the old monitoring method. Less time spent scanning at monitor start and rescanning during processing equals a much more efficient Real-Time Monitor. |
| SPIAgent Auto Update | Automatically send updates out to your SPIAgent machines to be installed. | Reduces the man hours needed to perform upgrades to each remote SPIAgent installation. |
| Delta Processing to non-Windows Systems | If you map a non-Windows drive to a drive letter on a Windows machine you can process delta copies to that non-Windows machine. | Delta copies to non-Windows machines allows you to consume less bandwidth when synchronising to these types of machines and perform the synchronisation with maximum efficiency. |
New SPIAgent File Locking Add-on (Available Soon)
The SPIAgent with File Locking Add-on requires the SPIAgent to be licensed and in turn gives you an additional benefit in file sharing environments. The SPIAgent File Locking Option eliminates the possibility that a file could be changed on multiple sides of a synchronisation resulting in a more efficient synchronisation with zero risk of lost changes. The user that attempts to open a file that is already in use will receive a message that they can open a read-only copy.
ArchiveSync Add-On Updates
Once separate from SureSync, the ArchiveSync functionality has been added to SureSync as an add-on product. Licensing the ArchiveSync Add-on allows you to create versioned copies of files for data retention, point-in-time recovery, and improved data availability should your current copies become corrupted or unusable.
